Find out how you can benefit from a rewarding career at HCA, the nation’s leading healthcare company.
Twenty-five percent of the Executive Development program’s learning model occurs in the classroom. Associates in both tracks of the program participate in world-class seminars that are led by experts on each respective topic. These seminars provide in-depth exposure to the fundamentals of healthcare management in a hands-on and lively setting.
Seminars
During the Program Orientation seminar, new associates and mentors learn about leadership development, HCA’s organizational priorities and the requirements for successfully completing the program.
Each participant completes a self-assessment to determine his or her individual executive development needs, expectations, goals and action plans. In addition, associates meet their mentors for the first time to discuss and understand their roles and expectations.
The Operations—Facilities seminar helps associates develop critical thinking skills and learn about HCA’s annual facility budgeting process.
Participants work in teams on a budget project intended to enhance their critical thinking skills and expose them to a concentrated budgeting process involving financial, business and demographic information. At the conclusion of the seminar, each team presents its final professional Budget to a panel of judges that includes facility, division and corporate leadership.
The Operations—Markets seminar exposes associates to HCA’s strategic planning and execution process for market-level initiatives.
Participants work in teams to complete a “live” project in an experience that closely mirrors the market-level operating strategy and execution processes most critical to HCA’s success. At the conclusion of the seminar, each team presents the results of its Market Strategy & Execution project to a panel of judges that includes facility, division and corporate leadership.
The most free-form seminar in the curriculum is on Leadership. It covers current topics of interest to future leaders in healthcare and leadership more generally. The overarching objective is leadership growth, retention and development.
The topics for the Leadership seminar are flexible in nature and have previously covered stress relief through heart math and understanding one’s self awareness and leadership style through the use of assessment tools. Associates on deck for promotion focus on improving their interviewing skills, career management skills, self-marketing, and more.
The Clinical Services and Physician Relations seminar is supported by internal subject matter experts who provide education in regulatory issues and information that supports HCA core values and initiatives. Each year the seminar focal point is on updated quality issues in healthcare utilizing practical and structured application assignments. This seminar also focuses on how to navigate the complexities of working with one of HCA’s major stakeholders the physician and the development of those strategic relationships.
“The Executive Development Program seminars rival anything I have ever seen on The Apprentice. We need to show Donald Trump how it’s really done!”
