  • Why does HCA have an Executive Development program?
  • The program goals are in alignment with the Corporate strategy and the HR mission to create a high performance, high commitment work environment that values employees, builds relationships, promotes understanding of expectations and recognizes the individual contribution in the delivery of high quality, compassionate, and cost-effective healthcare. The Executive Development program also ensures the management pipeline necessary to ensure leadership today and in the future.
  • When did the Executive Development program begin?
  • The COO Development Program was established in 2001, and the CNO Development Program was established in 2005.
  • Are the executive development positions full-time, compensated positions?
  • All development positions are fully compensated positions requiring full-time work with full-time benefits.
  • What is the salary of an Associate while in the program?
  • Each Associate’s salary is based on experience and other variables and is individually discussed with each accepted applicant to the program.
  • Will Associates have to relocate to be in the Executive Development program?
  • Geographic flexibility is a requirement upon entering the program. Some Associate CNOs may be able to stay at their home facility for mentoring.
  • How is relocation handled?
  • Relocation is based on the corporate relocation policy and will be reviewed with all accepted applicants prior to entering the program.
  • How many associates are enrolled in the program at any one time?
  • There are up to 12 Associate CNOs and up to 35 Associate Administrators in the program at one time.
  • How is placement determined once an Associate has completed the program?
  • Promotion to the Associate’s respective C-level position will be based on individual development, leadership skill assessments completed by mentor and program director, and the availability of positions when the Associate is ready to advance. Associates will not be automatically released from the program at the end of the usual timeframe for their respective program.
  • How long is the COO Development Program?
  • Associates should complete the COO Development Program within two to five years depending on previous work experience. Many Associates complete the program within three years.
  • Does an applicant have to be an HCA employee to be in CNO Development Program?
  • Yes, you must be an HCA employee to participate in the CNO Development Program as this program is designed to support HCA clinical leadership development within the organization.
  • If an RN who is currently in a Director role at a facility joins the program, can they remain in their director role and be based at their own facility?
  • All candidates chosen for the program become Associate CNOs and should transition out of their existing roles and into their new ones. This will provide them the opportunity to enhance and diversify their development of leadership, operational and financial skills. The program director will work with the mentor during the program on an operational and executive development plan.
  • How long is the CNO Development Program?
  • Associates should complete the CNO Development Program within two to three years depending on previous work experience. Many Associates complete the program within two years.
